Description
TO Play is an art adventure game from a team of student developers, about Toronto on the brink of a water crisis. Journey through and beneath the city into its combined sewer system, discover the history of the Lost Rivers, and gain the agency to daylight them once again.
Purpose
TO Play uses interactive storytelling as a platform for advocacy - tackling themes of water privatization, urbanization, environmental racism, and Indigenous water and land values. The game showcases a future where the environment has won and empowers players to think differently.
History
TO Play was formed in January 2020 by Ria Kapoor and Ryan Spooner as part of a thesis project, driven by their curiosity of the gamification of social issues. With a team of talented individuals, they got to work creating an artistic narrative experience for audiences to learn through play. The team aims to continue creating interactive media for social progress in the future. TO Play is currently in production and working with Ryerson's Transmedia Zone. It is set to launch in 2022.
